Jesus and the Gospels offers the student of biblical studies a unique introduction to the interpretative study of Jesus. It looks at the portrayal of Jesus in the Gospels (including a chapter on the apocryphal Gospels), using the tools of historical and literary criticism. It also shows how this material has been used by modern scholars (e.g. Sanders, Wright, Crossan and Borg) in their writings about Jesus. It is thus both an introduction to the Gospels and an introduction to recent writing about Jesus.

Review:
"Both positive and critical on the Gospel of Thomas; there are balanced assessments of 'feminist' and 'liberation' portraits of Jesus."
