Gr 5-8--The Silversteins cover the morphology and physiology of the circulatory and respiratory systems and discuss health problems that may affect these systems as well as advances in treatments for related diseases. Throughout both series entries, the authors focus on ways in which students can use their understanding of the human body and its functions to maintain good health. Each book includes a one-page timeline of important medical discoveries related to the system under consideration. Captioned full-color photographs and labeled diagrams clarify and extend the text. Related high-interest items, such as ``Why a Bruise Turns Black and Blue'' and ``TB: An Old Killer Returns,'' appear as boxed items. The texts are easy to read and comprehensive enough to serve as good basic introductions to the topics. However, there are no suggestions for further reading. The high quality of research and lively style of these well-known science writers make these well-organized presentations superior to similar titles. Two valuable additions.
