Squeeze Play, A Baseball Story - Hardcover

Grade 4-6-- The characters from Play-by-Play (Clarion, 1986), Glenn's earlier novel about soccer, are back in a baseball novel. Sixth-grader Jeremy and his classmates are faced with a hard-driving teacher, formerly a military man, who wants the class to learn discipline. He challenges a local prep school to two baseball games, and sets up a series of intense practice sessions to get ready. This proves difficult for Jeremy, who is not a natural athlete. Jeremy receives good advice, however, from the man who owns a local card shop. The somewhat complicated elements of the plot move along swiftly, and the descriptions of the baseball action are exciting and accurate.
