From School Library Journal:
Grade 9 Up-This how-to book is full of good advice for college-bound students. Thirty essays with brief introductory notes give teens concrete examples of what works to gain admission to the schools of their choice. Twelve essays that "bombed" are also analyzed, pointing out pitfalls to avoid. The text seems a bit didactic at times, as in "Final advice," which boils down to "Take time with your essay and practice for your interview," but that tone is hard to avoid given the nature of the subject. Examples of interview questions and answers are also included. In the "Final Thoughts" section, the authors state that, "-the fact that you have made your way to the end of this book shows not only your commitment to winning-," yet the volume's superb organization makes it tempting to simply browse. An alphabetical directory of some available scholarships with the name of the sponsor, the purpose, amount, and eligibility requirements and an annotated list of Web resources are appended. An excellent guide for all students who are hoping to continue their education.
