Deputy Knowles Knows is the uplifting story of true community investment. We all know that law enforcement officers risk their lives day in and day out, serving and protecting. But there are many other roles these men and women fill. They take time out of their busy schedules to invest in the community in various ways. One of these methods is to visit schools, read to children, and answer any questions they may have about who policemen and women are, and what exactly they do. This story showcases one of these visits, and highlights real questions and answers shared between students and Deputy Knowles. She not only shares valuable information, but also makes the children laugh and feel comfortable. This tale is a valuable reminder that law enforcement officers not only keep us safe, but that they also genuinely care about us.

About the Author:
Created out of a need for newer books in local preschools in Winchester, Virginia, Deputy Knowles Knows was born. Some of the Winchester City Sheriff’s Office staff, Sheriff L. Taylor, Major A. Sibert, and Deputy Carter read to different state and locally-funded preschools in Winchester, and Deputy Carter saw the need for newer books at the schools. She in turn spoke with the Executive Director of the Winchester Area Literacy Foundation, Kim Herbstritt, about her concern, and Ms. Herbstritt suggested writing a book. Taylor, Sibert, and Carter took the idea and ran with it, and enlisted the help of one of the most talented authors known in the Winchester area, Jay Foreman. They were then blessed by a young, talented, and enthusiastic illustrator, Ms. Morgan Myers, who was willing to help, and thus began the creation of “Deputy Knowles Knows.” Our hope with all the proceeds of this book, is to be able to give back to the community through the Literacy Foundation and through local youth programs.
