Like Grisham is to legal 'thriller and suspense books', the medical fiction books of Robert E. Marx are as realistic as they come. Deadly Prescription is the most electrifying medical novel of the year. This is a ‘David meets Goliath’ story between victimized unwary patients and Big Pharma’s legal thugs. They will stop at nothing to hide the damaging side effects of two mainstream drugs. Creativity and real-world medical experience has allowed Dr. Marx to craft an amazing story so realistic, you’ll wonder where the line of imagination crosses over to realism. How far will some men go for money and power? Deadly Prescription shows what happens when profit becomes more important than life. The twists and turns will catch you off guard, and the realistic details will keep you on the edge of your seat, turning pages. Self learning and life lessons can come from this doctor fiction too. Though it's not a doctor memoir or medical memoir, some medical fiction books reflect on real-world issues of controversy. Dr Marx's medical mystery shines an eerie light on a big problem we face today, perhaps much more sinister than we might imagine, if only to ponder as possible or probable. This fictional story tells of tainted drug studies and side-effect coverups by two pharmaceutical giants. As innocent people have been severely injured by their drugs, one of which is still on the market, the protagonist confronts these giants by defending his patients as a forensic expert in current lawsuits against these companies.Their ruthless team of lawyers will stop at nothing to quiet any noisemaker. The goal is to keep their client’s damaging drug available for as long as possible. It isn’t until the Russian Mob gets involved that things get very messy. See Miami’s culture and enjoy vivid depictions of South Beach. Read Deadly Prescription and see how men of greed actually think and act. Even worse, what lengths they will go to. After all, what’s a few thousand lives destroyed when billions of dollars are being made as a result? When it comes to "medical thrillers and mysteries”, Dr. Robert E. Marx does not disappoint.

SYNOPSIS

Doctor Robert Merriweather is used to being in control. As Chief of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Miami’s Miller School Of Medicine, he cannot afford to be otherwise. But when Doctor Jacobsen, his friend and mentor, is brutally murdered in Robert’s office, the illusion of control is quickly shattered. The hospital staff thinks it was a random killing, but Miami homicide detectives, Andy Molinaro and Enrique Gonzalez, know better. Doctor Merriweather is preparing to testify against Northstar Drug Company and Apollo Pharmaceuticals, two global conglomerates whose drugs have caused devastating harm to his patients and thousands of others. As they investigate possible links between the lawsuit and the murder, Molinaro and Gonzalez learn of several people with motive to see that the good doctor is permanently silenced. They follow the breadcrumbs from Miami to Midtown Manhattan, to a Russian mobster’s café in Brighton Beach, but they keep coming up empty. After a deranged man attempts to break into the OR while Merriweather is operating, everyone begins to think that he should lie low until the threat is over. But Merriweather is more determined than ever to take stand, frustrating the cops and his colleagues alike. Is the killer a crazed stalker or some hired gun commissioned by the highest echelons of Big Pharma? More importantly, can they stop him before he strikes again?

About the Author:
Dr. Robert E. Marx is a Chicago native who did his undergraduate education and professional education at Northwestern University in Evanston/Chicago, IL. As a specialist in oral and maxillofacial surgery, he spent 13 years as an active duty officer in the United States Airforce and later served in Operation Desert Storm. Now, as a Professor of Surgery and Chief of the Training Program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, he is known as one of the world s most predominant stem cell researchers and bone growth factor specialists. He has pioneered new concepts and treatments for pathologies of the oral and maxillofacial area as well as new techniques in reconstructive surgery. His many prestigious awards, including the Harry S Archer Award, the William J. Gies Award, the Paul Bert Award, and the Donald B. Osbon Award that attest to his many achievements in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery. He has written or co-edited ten medical text books one of which won the Medical Writers Book of the Year Award. And now he extends his broad knowledge in medicine into the fictional novels arena to educate and inform the readers of the dark side in medicine today with a bone chilling novel of medical intrigue that is so compelling and revealing it blurs the line between imagination and reality.
Review:
Cheers to Dr. Marx for taking time out of his very busy life to bring a very real problem to light for those outside of science. Dr. Marx opens up the world of trials and testifying against Big Pharma, and shows it is not for the fainthearted. The only voice for people that are callously injured by tainted clinical trials and over eager pharma marketing executives are brave doctors and nurses that are willing to endure the exhaustive and humiliating tactics by the defense to prevent them from testifying. While lesser medical professionals have caved in to the allure of Big Pharma, Dr. Marx stands tall as a hero for professionals and a life saver for countless people. This book leads the reader through the science of bone drugs, the problems when greed trips up common decency, and the perils when you put them together. While the character Dr. Merriweather may seem like the world's most interesting man, Dr. Marx IS the world's most interesting man! After reading this book, I did some research of my own, and found the public trial documents and articles from Dr. Marx about osteonecrosis of the jaws, and it is easy to see why Big Pharma would want to pull out all the stops to prevent him from getting in front of a jury. Enjoy! --Amazon.com
