This is the 27th edition of the annual update of a well-known desk reference on the diagnosis, treatment, medications, follow-up, and associated factors for more than 540 diseases and conditions.
 
The book has multiple purposes -- to provide an up-to-date reference by diagnosis, symptom, or condition in a bullet format, to provide intuitive algorithms of diagnosis and treatment, to provide patient education handouts for busy clinicians, to provide extensive monographs of medications, and, finally, to provide video memory aids about numerous procedures on the electronic version.
 
This is a book for every clinician's desk. The simplicity of the algorithms and the bullet format is extraordinarily easy to use.
 
The table of contents immediately gives access to information. This is followed by many flowcharts outlining a diagnostic and treatment plans for numerous common conditions. The next section is the bullet-format presentation of many conditions and diagnoses, starting with the "Basics," a description of the problem, "Diagnosis," "Treatment," "Ongoing Care," and "Additional Readings,"
for more specific information. Some chapters also have "Clinical Pearls." The book refers to a website, which requires an additional subscription, with a great deal of additional information such as printable patient education handouts, procedure videos, and an image bank, along with the information from the print book. Some of the chapters are available in both English and Spanish.
 
This edition is a continuation of a well-organized, well-presented source of medical information and an extremely easy-to-use desk reference.
