The book is a collection of letters that Lieutenant Colonel Jacob W. Greenwalt of the 105th Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry wrote to his bride Rebecca during the Civil War. Lt. Col. Greenwalt died of wounds received at the Battle of Wilderness on May 17, 1964, aged 26. His regiment also participated in the Battles of Chancellorville and Gettysburg.
